Greece, in the 1920's, is occupied by the Turks. The country is in turmoil with entire villages uprooted. The site of the movie is a Greek village that conducts a passion play each year. The leading citizens of the town, under the auspices of the Patriarch, choose those that will play the parts in the Passion. A stuttering shepherd is chosen to play Jesus. The town butcher (who wanted to be Jesus) is chosen as Judas. The town prostitute is chosen as Mary Magdalene. The rest of the disciples are also chosen. As the movie unfolds, the Passion Play becomes a reality. A group of villagers, uprooted by the war and impoverished, arrive at the village led by their priest. The wealthier citizens of the town want nothing with these people and manipulate a massacre. In the context of the 1920's each of the characters plays out their biblical role in actuality.。谷口（田口智朗饰）和妻子（叶冈伸饰）有个儿子，他们一家过着普通的幸福生活。一天儿子被两个光头仔绑架并杀害。谷口既紧张又愤怒，心中充满了杀意。之后，被绑架的他被送到地下工厂做了人体实验，大批的光头仔在那里生产。
谷口被该组织的统治者（冢本晋也饰）改造成一个可怕的半枪械人——人类人体和枪械重武器的混合体，并最终成为钢铁打造的恐怖机械人。之后一个惊人事实出现，他和统治者竟然是亲兄弟，一场命中注定的对决随之开始。。赖纳•文格尔（Jürgen Vogel 饰）是德国某所高中的老师，该学校正在进行“国家体制”的主题活动周。由于他最喜欢的“无政府主义”课被另一位老师捷足先登，因此他只能主讲“独裁统治”课程。
对于自由散漫的学生们来说，任何课程都只是为了学分而上。他们在课上大声聊天，无心听讲。文格尔别出心裁提出假想“独裁”的实验。在为期一周的实验中，文格尔被置于至高无上的地位，学生们对他要绝对服从。从最初的玩乐心态，这些青年男女渐渐沉湎这个名为“浪潮”的组织中，他们体会到集体和纪律的重要性，却在不知不觉中滑向了“独裁”与“纳粹”的深渊……
本片根据真实事件改编，并荣获2008年德国电影杰出剧情片和最佳男配角奖（Frederick Lau）。。
