抗日战争末期，阿尔山的原始森林遭到了日本侵略者更加疯狂的采伐。地下党员陈森海带领众人歼灭了日军，即将被掠往日本的大批木材又回到中国人手中。新中国成立后，陈森海和巴图展开了一场社会主义劳动竞赛，樱桃也不甘示弱，组建三八砍伐队和男人们开始竞赛。林业专家周京南带领科研小组来到阿尔山，建议森海边伐树边种树。一段动荡的岁月结束，全国各个战线百废待兴。森海被任命为林业局局长，林场的各项工作逐步走上正轨，阿尔山林场实施国家天保工程，减少砍伐面积并进行全面的转型。一个新的黎明来临，阿尔山再听不到那熟悉的伐木声了。林场牵头成立旅游公司，还建起林俗村和林俗博物馆，森海、巴图等人担任讲解员，为大家讲起阿尔山的往日和今夕。。Frank Tagliano ('Steven Van Zandt' ), is a former New York mobster, who after testifying in a trial in the United States, Tagliano joins the witness protection program.
