A reclusive scientist builds a robot that looks exactly like him to go on a long-term space mission. Since the scientist seems to lack all emotions, he is unable to program them into his automaton, and an eccentric woman is hired to "educate" the robot on human behavior. In the end, she falls in love... but is the robot or the Dr. Mr. Right?。1974年坝上腊月，知青帅红兵被分配给新上任的革委会大队长牛鲜花监管，喜爱文艺的牛鲜花欣赏帅红兵的才艺，对他处处加以保护，帅红兵的女友知青刘青因此怀恨在心。为了早日回城，帅红兵在一次事故中受重伤失去语言及思考能力，而其父母均被关在牛棚，牛鲜花毅然决定与帅红兵结婚，照顾其终生，刘青含恨回城。“四人帮”粉碎后，帅红兵父母平反，牛鲜花与帅红兵带一双女儿回城。离开话剧团下海经商的帅红兵同情刘青的不幸婚姻，二人终于又走到一起。离异的牛鲜花一人挑起家庭的重担，从摆街摊到经营水产品公司，终于在事业上获得成功，却与刘青和帅红兵的公司数次正面交锋……。
