ヤクザ組織の盲目の支配者に、座頭市が窮地に立たされてしまうシリーズ第21作。アイデアマン・勝新太郎が、初めて正式に脚本に参加しているが、特に目新しい趣向は見られない。市のライバル役の仲代達矢は、得意のギョロ目をむいてすごんでみせるものの、「椿三十郎」の時のような迫力はない。。白方进（伊藤淳史 饰）出生在寺庙之中，就读于佛教圣地高野山大学，学成后，他并没有选择剃度开启寺院生涯，反而蓄起了头发，在一间书店里打工。尽管生于寺庙，长于寺庙，但白方进的内心里却十分的矛盾，面对拥有无限可能的未来，他犹豫着，迟迟无法迈出脚步。
就在此时，一场意外发生，白 方进身为住持的祖父瑞円（品川彻 饰）无法继续寺庙中的工作。就这样，白方进以此为契机正是进入寺庙，接替祖父成为了荣福寺的住持。直到当上了住持，白方进才发现，庙中的一切和自己想想之中的是如此的不同，困难和麻烦接踵而至，白方进能否坚持下去，不忘初心，完成自己的心愿呢？。When a casino owning dog named Charlie is murdered by his rival Carface, he finds himself in Heaven basically by default since all dogs go to heaven. However, since he wants to get back at his killer, he cons his way back to the living with the warning that doing that damns him to Hell. Once back, he teams with his old partner, Itchy to prep his retaliation. He also stumbles on to an orphan girl who can talk to the animals, thus allowing him to get the inside info on the races to ensure his wins。
