一场意外之中，书生张生邂逅了千金大小姐崔莺莺，张生成为了崔莺莺的救命恩人。碍于救命之情，崔莺莺的母亲无奈答应了张生和女儿的婚事，哪知道却临时反悔。苦苦思念崔莺莺的张生竟然患上了相思病，一病不起。
