The policeman asks for a return favor and the boys oblige, oblivious to the ill fate that...。金凳十几岁在北平的书馆当伙计，拜评书名家孙鹤亭为师。孙鹤亭因说抗日书逃亡关外，抗战胜利后金凳毅然携家出关寻师，并遵从师父遗嘱，娶师父的儿女福绒为妻，从此开始独闯江湖。为养家糊口，他四处赶书场，虽拥有大量听众，成了评书大腕儿，却依然被恶势力压榨盘剥，以至债台高筑。解放后，艺人翻了身，金凳带头说新书。他走进中南海为国家领导人说书，入朝为志愿军战士说书。他的名气越来越大，听众越来越多，书座一票难求，人称金板凳、净街王。文革爆发，金凳全家下放农村，他却因祸得福，受到农民群众的爱护和追捧。改革开放，评书不仅上了电台，还上了电视和互联网，传统艺术重获新生，金凳也重新焕发了青春。。
