火焰山村是中国西部戈壁滩上的一个小村落，村里有个叫库来西的小男孩非常擅长打手鼓。库来西的妈妈曾经是位出色的舞蹈家，在她去世后，库来西就与外公外婆一起在火焰山生活。一天，村里来了一个演出团，是省里“小月亮”艺术团的小演员们，库来西精湛的手鼓技巧令大家叹为观止。在“小月亮”艺术团离开后不久，库来西也加入了艺术团，并与西林娜依一家生活在一起。而西林娜依的养父就是库来西的亲生父亲。西林娜依与库来西的关系非常亲密，但她出于某些原因又不愿意公开承认库来西就是她的哥哥。库来西表现出非常卓越的才华，引起了一些孩子们的嫉妒。大家产生了误会和隔阂，但最终因为彼此都有颗善良纯洁的心而重归于好，又团结幸福的生活在一起。。Lera is a sociology student at a small-town university.
