A young street magician is left to take care of his little sister after his mother's passing and turns to drug dealing in the Los Angeles party scene to keep a roof over their heads. When he gets into trouble with his supplier, his sister is kidnapped and he is forced to rely on both his sleight of hand and brilliant mind to save her。本剧讲述了知足常乐的京剧团道具师傅张卫国（黄磊饰）做了大半辈子的京剧，虽然过着特别普通的生活，却深信自己是“皇家的后裔”。在一次参加剧团师兄弟的聚会上，一群各自失意的中年男人开始各种浮夸的自我包装和互相攀比，带着这种包装回到生活的张卫国，经历了以为自己暴富，却又一夜负债，在一系列大喜大悲和鸡飞狗跳之后，最终卸下伪装，直面真实的自己的故事。。人在垂死之时究竟可以看到什么？是恐怖，还是惊喜？影片以一个复仇的故事慢慢展开，而主人公垂死的那一刻揭开了整个故事的谜底。。
